Looking for a great way to get yourself hyped, but don’t crave the adrenaline rush of a standard EDM track?  Check out Warriors by Too Many Zooz.

This song is production gold… listen for that subtle echo  after every BRAP – it really drives home how epicness of the horns.  Like the best Daft Punk song, it just keeps adding layers, and then the bass arrives and sends blood to the sensitive bits.

This is my jam of the month.  The whole album reminds me of Hypnotic Brass Ensemble – but is more approachable and has a more significant pop influence.

I’m an adult now.  I need to be honest and outright say

A) I like nice things
B) I like to buy toys

It’s a fucking horrendous combination. Good news, though!  It has birthed this gorgeous record player from 1979.  I had some store credit at a local audio store and decided to umm…trade up.

My vinyl collection has quickly exploded.  So far, I love the way my rock albums sound and newer stuff like Sylvan Esso (discussed in the past) sounds like shit.  More to come.

Tycho

Every morning I wake up to this song playing out of my Play:1.  Everyone should be so lucky.  It’s like bacon for the ears.

What you need to know about Tycho:

  • Tycho is Scott Hansen.  He is currently touring with a band
  • Scott Hansen’s design pseudonym is ISO50
  • Tycho is a result of the blending of art by music and by design. His shows, albums, and photographs are all filled with a certain design ethos that is paired seamlessly to the music it embodies
  • Tycho’s shows are amazing.  The audiences in attendance are incredibly diverse

I was at a Tyco show at The Neptune in Seattle this weekend, and it struck me that MankyMusic will be needs to be a Music Diary from now on.  Music has always been integral in my life. Each stage of my personal development is shaped by the artists, albums, concerts, and DVDs that I turn to as an escape.

I will strive to shine light on what I consider classics, as well as new artists that I feel are up to snuff.

Sylvan Esso’s Debut Album

Wow. This took me by complete surprise.  When I first heard Coffee (above) I was immediately impressed.  However, after being disappointed so often these days by single-makers I assumed Sylvan Esso’s debut album would be (a) pop or (b) nothing special.
I was completely wrong.
Nick Sanborn (Made of Oak and Megafaun) has created beats that rarely and often disappear into the darkness to allow Amelia Meath’s (Mountain Man) vocals to shine. Whomps and drums don’t dominate these tracks…but when they do make their presence heard it is greatly appreciated.

Brika

Brika just hit the scene, and so far two songs are available on Spotify and both have been lingering at the forefront of HypeMachine for the last few days.  

I’ll cut to the point.  Both tracks are excellent.  If you’re looking for a few new laid back tracks for work or even good make out music a la Little Dragon, here you go.  

I can’t help but hear significant influence from Adele’s debut album (19) in both of these tracks.  A little bit of jazz with a little coffee shop EDM.
